What are the benefits of acro/tumbling for dancers?

 

For dancers, acro builds full-body strength and teaches essential acro skills needed for competition. Cartwheels, front and back walk-overs, aerials, and back handsprings are all frequently used in competition. If your child is considering auditioning for Teams, these skills will be important to their success.

 

At the beginning levels, your child will learn how to roll which is important for protecting their body should they fall. Handstands are important to master as they are the basis for all of the progressive moves such as cartwheels, front and back walkovers/handsprings. Perfect back-bends and kick-overs are taught as well.

Acro/Tumbling Class is really directed at students in 5th grade and up, and is at the discretion of XDL Principal via assessment. The reason for this is because we need to place students responsibly that are strong enough to cope with supporting themselves and are of a good flexibility along with strength too, for obvious reasons. Students will have a special warm up which will build their strength and mobility then a range of exercises targeting on key practices towards preparing them for handstands, walkovers, ariels etc.
